The Kevin Everett Foundation

Mission

Raise funds to bring about education and awareness about spinal cord injuries, as well as provide aid and necessary financial assistance to those who have been gravely affected by these traumas.

The Foundation

The Kevin Everett Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the care of spinal cord injury patients. Founded by former Buffalo Bill, Kevin Everett, the Kevin Everett Foundation is committed to assist the newly injured with there transition from the hospital to rehabilitation to home.

Facts

Every 49 minutes, an American sustains a traumatic spinal cord injury. Only half of those with spinal cord injuries have health insurance at the time of their injury and the average expenses incurred in the first year after an injury are $ 329,000.

Here are a few other facts for you to consider:

• Number of new spinal cord injuries per year: 11,000
• First year expenses for paraplegics: $ 209,074
• First year expenses for quadriplegics: $ 470,833
• % of people with SCI unemployed ten years after injury: 56.3%
• Average cost of a van that accommodates a quadriplegic: $ 45,000
• Average cost of a lift to transfer a quadriplegic from bed to wheelchair: $ 9,500
• Average cost of modifying a home into a wheelchair accessible living environment: $ 175,000

Goals

We strive to help in several ways.  We will provide information to the newly injured about what to expect, how to cope, and provide money for the equipment and care they need. A Foundation grant of $ 5,000 can buy a specialized bed; $ 10,000 will buy a transfer lift; $ 50,000 will cover skilled caregiver expenses for a year or the purchase of an accessible vehicle.
